“Zumba with Bernice in Powderhorn Park” Talk about positive energy—Latin music, coin studded hip scarves, and big smiles is what you’ll see at a Zumba with Bernice class. This is one of many free to the public events hosted by OUT in the Backyard, a health initiative which began in 2008. Out in the Backyard works to improve the lives of the LGBTQ people by connecting people to each other and to resources. This initiative is also meant to reduce the gap between LGBT and non-LGBT people through healthy activities that nurture well-being, reduce isolation, lower stress, improve mental health, offer support, and connect community members.
"Pride Weekend" Bernice Arias, Maggie McEvoy and Minda Garcia (left to right) were all smiles after participating in this year’s Pride Parade. Through their association with OUT In The Backyard, they and other community members help LGBTQAI people connect with each other and work to help bridge the gap between the LGBTQAI and straight communities through health/wellness classes and community events in Powderhorn and adjacent neighborhoods.
"DoubleDutch" These little cuties were splashing in the puddles on the west side of 15th Ave.
