"New Year's Eve Stroll" Alisa & Martin came down to Powderhorn Lake for a stroll on the ice a little after dusk on New Year's Eve. The south side of the lake was cleared of snow earlier in the day for ice skating and with the feels like temp at about -25, they pretty much had the lake all to themselves.
"Flakes a flying" Minneapolis Public Schools custodian Dennis Neumeier used a snow blower to clear off a few inches of fallen powder on the sidewalks and doorways around the Wilder Complex at the corner of 34th Street and Chicago Avenue. The temperature at the time was 7 degrees, which was warm compared to the sub-zero temperatures that started off the final week in December.

“New Chapter” Abner Arias recently moved to the Powderhorn Park neighborhood from hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico to live with his cousin. It is his first experience with snow and “authentic” winter conditions. Despite being here less than a month, he is adapting to his new surroundings remarkably well, has secured employment, and looks forward to meeting new friends and proceeding with a new chapter of his life.

"Nuthatch" This little fluff ball didn't seem to mind the -6 temp today.
"Christmas Eve, Canine Style" Tito and Archie took a break from enjoying a roaring fire to pose for a picture on Christmas Eve. This is their second Christmas in the Powderhorn Park neighborhood. Both are rescues and love to go for long walks in the park.
"Cat brush" Julie Rathmann teases her cat, Alfred, while painting in her home studio. Influenced by albums and shoeboxes of black and white family pictures, Rathmann paints people and scenes reminiscent of her rural Minnesota upbringing. Her work can be found on her website, julierathmann.com.
"ST" ST...a high school teacher at South, a father, a thoughtful, kind person. He is a natural role model—a person we all aspire to be. Born in Biloxi, Mississippi, ST's home has been in Powderhorn for close to 30 years. What he appreciates most about Powderhorn is the communal nature and respect for one another we as neighbors share.

"Basketball in the Gym, Foosball in the Lobby" A stiff wind and overcast sky made for a dreary day, but the Powderhorn Recreation Center was open to people taking refuge from the cold to work in the pottery studio, have a party, or just mess around with a little friendly competition.
"Spirit Of The Season" Holiday lights lit up the porch of a house located across the street from Powderhorn Park's south side, giving passersby a festive view.
"Jingle all the way" Isabel Brandt, right, plays with her hair as she sings Jingle Bells with her first-grade class during the annual Christmas concert for Risen Christ Catholic School Thursday. Grades K through 8 performed songs, some in Spanish, in front of packed pews at Holy Name Catholic Church.
