"Koi on the corner" Andre gave me a sneak peek of his Koi pond as he was working to clear the leftover vegetation from last year. He was explaining to me how Koi remain dormant all winter, under the ice, eating nothing and doing nothing. He is hoping that soon his Koi will awaken along with the rest of his ornate backyard oasis. I'm hoping to catch another photo of them later this summer.
I met my friend and neighbor Patty a few years ago when we performed in the BareBones Halloween Outdoor Puppet Extravaganza together. She has lived in Powderhorn since 1979 and moved here, in part, because of the May Day parade- she dances with the band every year dressed as Carmen Miranda. I walked over to her home and met her rescue puppy Delilah, along with some of her puppets, while she told me lots of great neighborhood stories.
"Pi (π) Day" Today, 3-14-15, was a celebration for math geeks around the globe. Saturday, March 14, 2015, marks the first five digits of Pi (π) and what's special about this holiday is that it won't happen for another hundred years. Math students have been celebrating in their classroom all week and I thought I'd honor the date with a slice of delicious breakfast "pie" from May Day Cafe. Check out this NPR article to learn more about Pi Day: http://www.npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2015/03/14/392589847/pi-day-isnt-just-magical-its-mathematics-and-theres-pie
