"Hawk Eyes are watching" These two fledgling Cooper's Hawks have stayed in their home for a very few weeks now, getting fed by Mom and Dad. Here they are (two of three chicks) watching for the next mouse (or whatever) to get served them. They are also watching you. Very soon, within a couple of days, they will be testing their wings for the first time. These young hawks live in a high nest just off the walk path near 35th St. and the alley that runs beside the park on the west side. Welcome to Powderhorn, young hunters.
"Powderhorn Berries" The Mulberries are starting to ripen in Powderhorn! They are a nice sweet treat as you walk around the neighborhood. It is great to see all the fruit being grown in the city. Strawberries, raspberries, cherries, apples, plums and many other fruits are starting to mature and ripen in peoples gardens. Some will be ready earlier in the summer than others!
