"Garbage Day" Individuals essential to the effective running of our neighborhood that I often miss seeing and almost missed capturing today. Fridays are currently alternatively garbage day and recycling day. Active but chilly work on a winter morning.
"Sanctuary" Until just recently this was the sanctuary of El Milagro Lutheran Church (38th and 17th). El Milagro's relocation to 39th and Chicago this past year helped to create Southside Commons with the intent that the space continue to be an asset to the neighborhood and community. Southside Commons is a non-profit that provides office, classroom, meeting, event, and worship space. There are currently about fifteen building partners that include community and youth organizations and church groups.
"Sadie Pulls the Sled" Sadie pulls her sled. Grand-daughter Sadie Park (2) with Grandma Patty (my wife) on the west side of Powderhorn, not far from the 'teahouse'. She seems so determined to pull the sled when she knows very well she could be riding if she wanted. I really like the long-slanting shadows from the evergreens, and the gently curving sidewalk that encloses the people. Clear, mid-afternoon winter sun brightens everything here.
