"May Day!" The 40th May Day Parade and Festival and my 40th year photographing the events! The celebration was created and produced by In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre in cooperation with the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board. This year’s theme was “Wonder? Wonder!” The monarch section was titled “Arrested by Wonder,” and lead artist was Gustavo Boada and parade artist assistant was Sarah Larsson. Marg Rozicki is carrying the wings. The monarch is both literal and figurative, telling the story of the great migration of butterflies to and from Mexico and southern California but also the tragedy of hundreds of human migrants who die trying to cross the border between the US and Mexico. The program states: "The powerful monarch butterfly has been adopted as a symbol by many immigrants' rights groups."
"The Sun's Flotilla Prepares" The sun's flotilla prepares for this year's voyage across the lake during tomorrow's Mayday parade pageant.
"Signs of Mayday" You know it's the Friday before Mayday when street barriers start appearing on the streets adjacent to Bloomington Avenue!
