"Silk flowers/Flores de seda" Colorful dresses hang like silk flowers from the ceiling of Mercado Central, a charming little mall that is one of the Hispanic contributions to Powderhorn's diversity. Vestidos de colores cuelgan como flores de seda desde el techo del Mercado Central, un pequeño centro comercial muy bonito que es una de las contribuciones hispanas a la diversidad de Powderhorn.
"From every mountainside; let freedom ring!" Mark, Mabeline, and Idania—friends from Park Avenue United Methodist Church--sledded for three hours (at least), along with Madeline's sister Idania, Mark's sister Kate, and Mark and Kate's dad Bill. It is Martin Luther King Day, and well worth quoting him: "When we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual: 'Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!'"
"Northern Cardinal" I witnessed my neighbor, Mitch, trying to scare the largest woodpecker that I have ever seen out of a tree in his front yard with a snowball this morning. I quickly grabbed my camera and ran out the door and ended up tracking this elusive pecker from tree to tree snapping pictures only to come up with empty tree branches and clouds 40 feet up in the air. Ultimately, the woodpecker flew East towards Matt's Bar and he was soon replaced by my favorite South Minneapolis bird; the Northern Cardinal.
