"Meghan Looking Up"
"We the People: Benefit Concert for the RNC 8" I attended quite an inspiring event tonight, 10/28/10, at Walker Church in Powderhorn neighborhood in Minneapolis. After their individual appearances, these performers and speakers joined together on stage at the end of the concert. The benefit was originally for a legal defense fund on behalf of people arrested and charged with felonies during the 2008 Republican National Convention (RNC) in St. Paul. The last cases were resolved by plea agreement on October 19, and no trial will take place. For more information, go to RNC8.org. Since legal fees are no longer needed, concert proceeds will be used to fund a social justice intern at In the Heart of the Beast Puppet & Mask Theatre for the May Day Parade in 2011. The poster publicized this as "A celebration of our freedom! Sponsored by the Community of Elders." Featured performers included Jerry Rau, Larry Long, Louis Alemayehu, Van Nixon, Papa John Kolstad, Barb Tilsen, Patches & Gretchen, Eskit, Tou Saiko Lee, Cadillac Kolstad, Cornbread Harris, Joe Savage, Kathy & Leo Lara, Tom Leiberman, Doug Lohman, and several musicians and singers who joined some of the performers. Speakers included Laura Waterman Wittstock, Karen Clark, Ken Tilsen, Polly Mann, David Tilsen, Peter Rachleff, Sandy Spieler, Hannah Knazan-Lippman, Sara Olson, Mordecai Specktor, and RNC 8 defendant Max Specktor. (Max is on the left of the stage in the black-and-white sweater.)
"Through a glass bead curtain, parkly!" Not exactly the sunny day I had in mind for my big debut on this wonderful website, but, in addition to being glad my roof is still on and there's no tree ON IT (lowest barometric pressure ever recorded over the continental U.S.! during this wind storm), I'm glad I was still able to find some lovely bright colors in my fine front yard!
