Powderhorn park is a popular site for wood ducks in the city. Wood ducks commonly nest in tree cavities near water. As tree cavities have become scarce wood duck boxes have been put up to encourage nesting in the area. Every year, as spring approaches, the boxes are filled with fresh wood chips in hope that the female wood duck will nest and produce offspring. After hatching, the ducklings will jump down from the nest and make their way towards the water. Look for these colorful birds come spring!
