Saturday, September 29. 2012Powderhorn Porchfest 2012 Three porches on the same block hosted a variety of bands and musicians, from 4pm to 9pm. This was an awesome annual South Minneapolis event spotlighting local musicians and artists. Rock the Garden is too big. House concerts are too small. What's in between? POHO PorchFest 2012! Friday, September 28. 2012Jazz notes in the park Schmidy is a recent Powderhorn/Central resident. He moved to Minneapolis from DC last winter. Although here he is playing a baritone, his instrument of choice is the stand-up bass. It was apparent by what he was playing that Schmidy is a fan of Jazz... when I asked him to name some music/musicians that were his favorites, his response was "where to begin..." Then he rattled off names both familiar and not familiar. I realized quickly that I could get a great jazz education from this gentleman.
